With the weather increasingly taking on its autumn hues, life at St George’s also felt particularly autumnal this weekend!
“We’re still buzzing after Saturday – thank you for organising it” said Jen at the school gate on Monday morning. And what had we organised? Our annual Harvest Supper Beetle Drive! Yep, who knew that a diagram of a beetle and a few dice and some simple rules could produce such fun and hilarity – but it really does! Lots of fun, with some quite impressive competitive spirits emerging, we enjoyed planning a full Beetle Drive before settling down for a hearty meal. Once all was consumed (we even got to ‘thirds’ for a fortunate few!) we then brought the evening to a close by playing the now traditional St George’s games.
The next days, our stomach’s still full, we gathered for our Harvest Festival. The church looked stunning thanks to the sterling efforts of our flower team who produced not only vivid displays, but even managed to get the bales of straw up and out too! Joined by various groups from the Scouting community, the children then beavered away in the background creating gifts to give away and thinking of all the things that they could be thankful for. They then led us in the reading, prayers and helped prepare us for the Eucharistic too. Traditional hymns were sung (how many of us still enjoy our once in a year ‘We Plough the Fields’?!), and then we moved over to the Parish Centre for Bacon Butties (thanks Josie & Isaac!) in the Parish Centre.
So now we catch our breath before we do it all again with our school’s Harvest Festival on Friday!
