This year marks the tenth anniversary of Thy Kingdom Come, the global wave of prayer that brings Christians together across denominations and around the world. Over the years, we’ve embraced this season by creating opportunities for our community to connect with prayer in meaningful ways — from our Prayer Gate and lighting candles in church, to our annual prayer walk through the parish, where we lift in prayer all who live, work, and visit our area.

Last year, we set the bar high by installing a beautiful display of doves above the altar, thanks to the creative talents of Jane. The installation was so well received that even groups hiring the church afterwards asked if the doves could be brought back!

This year, we’ve continued to build on that momentum. The first new addition was our Prayer Labyrinth. The concept was simple: to mark out a labyrinth on the church lawn and invite people to use it in their own way for reflection and prayer. The execution, however, turned out to be trickier than expected! Lining everything up and getting the pattern right proved a bit of a challenge — but thanks to the dedication and creativity of Laura, Catherine, and Hannah, it came together beautifully.

The same talented team also took on our Pentecost decorations, and once again, they delivered something truly special. With plans in place to reuse the doves in future projects, we wanted a new centrepiece this year — and flames were the perfect choice! After much cutting, sewing, and careful installation, the result is a stunning, vibrant display that brings a real sense of celebration to the space. It will only be up for a short while, so if you get the chance, do pop in and see it. The decorations are constantly in motion and really bring the season of Pentecost to life.
