Notices: Sunday 14th September
Apologies for the lateness of this email, it's been a wonderful week of getting everything back up and running, and with the joy of a glorious wedding thrown in, time seems to have slipped through my fingers far too quickly!
Perhaps you've noticed the same: the older we get, the faster time seems to move. As children, a week stretched endlessly; as adults, it passes ever quicker. Some suggest this is down to our metabolism slowing, others say it's because we encounter fewer "new" experiences, so our brains have less to process. Another idea is that a week simply feels shorter when compared to the greater span of our lives. Whatever the explanation, most of us would agree that time flies, and there's no way to hold it back.
Which brings us to this Sunday – Benefactor Sunday. Once a year we pause to give thanks for those who came before us: people who gave their time, their gifts, their money, and their love so that we might gather here at St George's today. Some of the names we'll hear may be unfamiliar, while others might stir vivid memories. Either way, we're reminded that we are part of something bigger than ourselves.
Just as time seems to pass more quickly than we expect, Benefactor Sunday reminds us that our life together is also carried along by the generosity and faithfulness of those who have gone before. We are stewards of a story that began long before us and will, God willing, continue long after us. Their legacy is woven into the very fabric of our worship, our community, and our welcome.
So as we gather this Sunday, let's hold both truths together: the steady passing of time, and the enduring gift of belonging to a church that stretches across generations. May it stir in us gratitude for those who have gone before us, faithfulness in the present, and hope for the future.
And so with that in mind, here are the notices this week: Notices for Sunday 14 September 2025.pdf
Best Wishes, Claire
