Music has always been at the heart of worship at St George's, and we're excited about where it might lead us next.
We're looking for enthusiastic, creative and collaborative musicians to help us build on our strong musical tradition and shape an exciting future. Whether you're an experienced church musician, a recent graduate, a conservatoire or university student, or someone looking to develop your musical leadership, we'd love to hear from you.
We're currently recruiting for two roles:
Organist
(£2,000 per annum)
We're seeking a skilled organist who enjoys accompanying congregational worship and working as part of a team. You'll play for our weekly Parish Eucharist and major festivals, work alongside our choir, and help create worship that is both beautiful and prayerful.
Parish Music Director
(£3,000 per annum)
We're also looking for an inspiring Parish Music Director who can help grow our choir, encourage musicians of all ages, develop an engaging repertoire, and work with us to place music at the heart of our worship, mission and community life.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys building musical communities, nurturing talent and helping others discover the joy of making music together.
One role... or two?
These posts may be appointed separately or together. If you have the skills and enthusiasm to undertake both roles, we'd be delighted to hear from you. Equally, if your strengths lie primarily in either organ playing or musical leadership, we warmly encourage you to apply for the individual role that suits you best.
At St George's, we have ambitious plans for the future of music. Alongside worship, we're looking to grow our choir, support our flourishing children's choir, develop lunchtime recitals, encourage individual music teaching, and make music an even more vibrant part of parish life.

The Choir of St George’s
Rehearsals: Friday 7.30pm in church (term time)
Singing: Sundays 9.30am
Music is at the heart of our worship, and our choir sings at every Sunday service as well as at all the great festivals of the Church year.
We’re a friendly and supportive group who love singing together and offering our music to enrich the worship of the church. Whether you’re an experienced chorister or simply someone who enjoys singing and would like to grow in confidence, you would be very welcome.

Alty Trebles
Rehearsals: Wednesday, 3.45pm
Singing: Various Festival Services throughout the year
We are delighted to have a Children’s Choir ‘Altrincham Trebles’ held in our Parish Centre on a Monday afternoon, offering free musical tuition that will last your child a lifetime!
Music is an integral part of our life at St George’s. We have seen many examples of how a good musical education has changed the lives for young people for the better. Rev. Claire remembers her time at Bradford Cathedral, when she and her husband saw many of the young choristers form wonderful communities and then go to prestigious Universities on Choral Scholarships – a journey that started in Primary School. We are very keen that pupils from our Parish have the same opportunities.
Therefore, our choir is fun, and helps develop teamwork at a young age, and gives each child the experience of that buzz as their voices harmonise with each other. Our choir is focused on teaching our pupils how to sing properly, how to read music, and for those that want it, they are fully prepared to sit the relevant ABRSM exams; setting them up for any musical adventure that they want to peruse in secondary school.

We understand that not everyone can commit to singing every week, so at the key Festival Services such as Christmas & Easter, we invite occasional singers to come and swell our numbers!

Meet the Team

Russell Medley
Russell is currently a Senior Vocal Coach/Repetiteur at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester. He is also the Musical Director of the Sale Choral Society, and has been the Musical Director of the Lindow Singers and the Northern England Chorale.
He specialises in the organ, piano, double bass, composition and conducting. He has performed around the work, and spent many years as an examiner for the Associate Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).
He has also been the Assistant Chorus Master of the Halle Chorus, and has worked with young people at Moreton Hall School in Shropshire and the Centre of Young Musicians in The Hague, alongside establishing a thriving private teaching and coaching practice too.

Tessa Tang: Director of Alty Trebles
Tessa Tang is a Singaporean soprano and graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, where she trained as a classical singer and was also chosen as an RNCM Digital Ambassador.
An experienced performer, Tessa has appeared on BBC Radio 3 and performed in opera, concerts and recitals in the UK and internationally, with repertoire ranging from Mozart to contemporary opera.
Alongside performing, Tessa is a trained teacher and has a real passion for music education and helping young singers develop their voices, musicianship and confidence. As Director of Alty Trebles, she brings professional musical expertise together with warmth, energy and a belief that high-quality music education should be both accessible and great fun.
