The Choir of St George’s

Rehearsals: Friday 7.30pm in church (term time)

Singing: Sundays 9.30am

Music is at the heart of our worship, and our choir sings at every Sunday service as well as at all the great festivals of the Church year.

We’re a friendly and supportive group who love singing together and offering our music to enrich the worship of the church. Whether you’re an experienced chorister or simply someone who enjoys singing and would like to grow in confidence, you would be very welcome.

If you enjoy making music with others, why not come along and see what it’s like? We’re always delighted to welcome new voices.

Alty Trebles

Rehearsals: Mondays, 3.30pm

Singing: Various Festival Services throughout the year

We are delighted to have a Children’s Choir ‘Altrincham Trebles’ held in our neighbouring school (open to all local children) on a Monday afternoon, offering free musical tuition that will last your child a lifetime!

Music is an integral part of our life at St George’s. We have seen many examples of how a good musical education has changed the lives for young people for the better. Rev. Claire remembers her time at Bradford Cathedral, when she and her husband saw many of the young choristers form wonderful communities and then go to prestigious Universities on Choral Scholarships – a journey that started in Primary School. We are very keen that pupils from our Parish have the same opportunities.

Therefore, our choir is fun, and helps develop teamwork at a young age, and gives each child the experience of that buzz as their voices harmonise with each other. Our choir is focused on teaching our pupils how to sing properly, how to read music, and for those that want it, they are fully prepared to sit the relevant ABRSM exams; setting them up for any musical adventure that they want to peruse in secondary school.

We understand that not everyone can commit to singing every week, so at the key Festival Services such as Christmas & Easter, we invite occasional singers to come and swell our numbers!

Meet the Team

  • Russell Medley

    Russell is currently a Senior Vocal Coach/Repetiteur at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester. He is also the Musical Director of the Sale Choral Society, and has been the Musical Director of the Lindow Singers and the Northern England Chorale.

    He specialises in the organ, piano, double bass, composition and conducting. He has performed around the work, and spent many years as an examiner for the Associate Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).

    He has also been the Assistant Chorus Master of the Halle Chorus, and has worked with young people at Moreton Hall School in Shropshire and the Centre of Young Musicians in The Hague, alongside establishing a thriving private teaching and coaching practice too.

  • Aiden McCusker

    Aiden is a first class graduate in vocal performance from the RNCM, and is now embarking on a two year Master's. He is also a choral scholar at Bolton Parish Church, and, we have been told from a number of sources, 'has a voice to die for'!

    More importantly for us, he is kind, patience and has a wonderfully gentle way of steering our young children to grow in confidence and skill, and we can't wait to see where his leadership takes our choir this year.

    So if you'd like you child to experience free, high quality singing lessons, complete with medals and recognised examinations, do encourage them to come and be part of it!
