Lent & Easter
@ St. George’s
What is Lent?
Lent is a season in the Christian year that lasts for 40 days (six weeks) and leads up to Easter. It’s often described as a journey; not a test of willpower or a list of rules, but a time to slow down and pay attention. Traditionally, Lent invites people to reflect on life, faith, and what really matters, making space to listen to God amid busy lives. Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, and ends on Easter Eve ready for the celebration of Easter Day.
You don’t need to have everything figured out to take part, and might not even count yourself ‘religious’ - it is open to anyone curious about faith, change, or simply taking a deeper look at life and meaning.
Pancakes!
Wondering what to do for Shrove Tuesday yet?
No worries—we’ve got you covered (even if we’re celebrating a couple of days early! 😅). Come along for delicious pancakes, great company, and the best part? Someone else is doing the cooking and the washing up! What more could you ask for?
Ash Wednesday (1)
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent—a season of reflection, renewal and preparation as we journey towards Easter.
During the service, those who wish are invited to receive the sign of the cross in ash on their forehead. This ancient and moving tradition reminds us of our humanity, our need of God's grace, and the hope of new life that is found in Christ.

Friday Evening Eucharist
Our Friday Evening Eucharist is a short, quiet service at the end of the week; a chance to pause, reflect on the week that’s been, and place what’s ahead into God’s hands before the weekend begins. After a busy or demanding week, it's a wonderful way to rest yourself so that you can fully enjoy the weekend.
If you’ve never been to church before, or if it’s been a long time since you last came, please don’t worry. There’s nothing you need to know, say, or do. You’re very welcome to simply come, sit, and be still. Everyone is welcome, exactly as they are.
